The Art of Staying Sane

I titled this latest entry The Art of Staying Sane because that is what my art represents – to me.  If you have read my blog thus far describing the challenges in caring for my mother with Alzheimer’s, or if you have been a caretaker yourself, then you understand what I mean.

I recently came across some journal notes I kept during those earlier months with mother that I had totally forgotten about and there was an interesting entry that read:
“I wanted to run away, but God said, “No, I want you to soar.”’
At the time I wrote this I had not begun the art work and now when I read those words I understand the meaning.   I don’t know how far I will soar, but I know my art isn’t just about me.  I have learned in sharing my story with others that it gives people comfort and hope.  So I will continue the journey.

Here are some more journal notes I’d like to share with you.

Even the smallest flower is made in great detail, as God intended.”

“How can I be unhappy when the sun is shining?”

“Our own happiness cheers others.”

“Cats soothe our souls.”
